Urša Zabukovec (1980, Ljubljana) je leta 2005 diplomirala iz primerjalne književnosti in ruskega jezika s književnostjo na Filozofski fakulteti Univerze v Ljubljani, leta 2011 pa doktorirala iz ruske filogije na Jagelonski univerzi v Krakovu.V letih od 2001 do 2005 je učila ruščino slovenske poslovneže, v študijskem let 2009/2010 je na Jagelonski univerzi predavala Dostojevskega.Objavlja doma in v tujini, zanimajo jo predvsem ruska literatura in družbenopolitična misel, pravoslavna antropolgija ter religiozna filozofija. Ima status svobodne književne prevajalke; prevaja iz ruščine, teoretske tekste tudi iz angleščine ter iz sovensščine v poljščino.Je dvakratna dobitnica Škrabčeve štipendije, na Poljskem pa je leta 2012 prejela tretjo nagrado Nacionalnega kulturnega centra za najboljšo doktorsko nalogo iz kulturnih študij.Neverbalni Dostojevski je blažja predelava doktorske disertacije, v kateri avtorico zanima povezava neverbalne komunikacije s 'prekletimi vprašanji', se pravi to, kako se duhovno stanje človeka v svetu Dostojevskega izraža z njegovim neverbalnim vedenjem, to pa je jedrnato poimenovala neverbalni duhovni realizem.Osrednji del knjige je analiza sedmih romanov, v sklepu pa avtorica povzema glavne ugotovitve o naravi neverbalne komunikacije, o njenih funkcijah in odnosu do verbalne komunikacije ter o podobi človeka in Boga pri Dostojevskem.

In his original new study, Seth Graham analyzes a rich and forgotten vein of humor in an otherwise bleak environment. The late Soviet period (1961–1986) hardly seems fertile ground for humor, but Russian jokes (anekdoty) about life in the Soviet Union were ubiquitous. The cultural and political relaxation in the decade following Stalin’s death produced considerable optimism among Soviet citizens. The anekdot exploited and exposed what Graham calls "Soviet diglossia" (official Sovietese vs. Russian everyday language) and emphasized the distance between official myths and quotidian reality. Jokes engaged a range of official and popular culture genres and also worked meta-textually, referring to the political consequences of jokes. While the dissidents of this period, who stressed the heroic and opposed everything Soviet, have been much written about, Graham’s work on the anekdoty—written in the third person, ironic, and engaged with everything Soviet—fills a hole that has been overlooked in cultural history.

This volume explores the Russia where the great writer, Fyodor Dostoevsky (1821-81), was born and lived. It focuses not only on the Russia depicted in Dostoevsky's works, but also on the Russian life that he and his contemporaries experienced: on social practices and historical developments, political and cultural institutions, religious beliefs, ideological trends, artistic conventions and literary genres. Chapters by leading scholars illuminate this broad context, offer insights into Dostoevsky's reflections on his age, and examine the expression of those reflections in his writing. Each chapter investigates a specific context and suggests how we might understand Dostoevsky in relation to it. Since Russia took so much from Western Europe throughout the imperial period, the volume also locates the Russian experience within the context of Western thought and practices, thereby offering a multidimensional view of the unfolding drama of Russia versus the West in the nineteenth century.

This book is a study of a Soviet cultural phenomenon of the 1950s through the 1980s known as guitar poetry—songs accompanied by guitar and considered poetry in much the same way as those of, for example, Bob Dylan. Platonov’s is the most comprehensive book in English to date to analyze guitar poetry, which has rarely received scholarly attention outside of Russia. Going well beyond the conventional, text-centered view of guitar poetry as a form of po­litical or artistic dissent, largely a function of the Cold War climate in which it began, Platonov argues for a more complex understanding of guitar poetry as a means of self-invention and community formation. Although grounded in literary studies, the book effectively brings historical, anthropological, and musicological perspectives to bear on an understudied phenomenon of the post-Stalin period.
